Trans woman becomes the 16th murdered this year in the United States

Another black trans woman has been murdered in the United States, bringing the number of known black trans women killed this year to 16 in the U.S.

TeeTee Dangerfield was shot in Atlanta outside of an apartment complex in the early hours of Tuesday morning (August 1).

The 32 year-old was discovered with gun shot wounds next to her vehicle in College Park, and was taken to the Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

Detectives say they're unsure at this stage if the murder as a hate crime, as they can't be sure if Dangerfield being trans was a motive for the killer.

Major lance Patterson said the victims family have been told, he added:

"Detectives are out there right now following up on leads that have been coming in since the incident."

"At this time we don't have anything that's telling us that [it was a hate crime], but we're not ruling out any possible motive."
