On Friday, the second reading of the Merchant Shipping (Homosexual Conduct) Bill was read in the British House of Commons.
The aim of the bill is to repeal a section of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which allows for British seamen to be dismissed on the grounds of "homosexual acts".
The law is seen as the last anti-gay law on the statute books in the UK and its repeal would be seen as symbolic more than anything, as current LGBT discrimination laws would not allow for the section to be enacted anyway.
I certainly think this should be seen as a positive moment for LGBT rights, and welcome news...
